Will Hoge Robinsonville Concert reviews
In an arena far, far away.....
One of the best concerts I have seen in a very long time played there. In Concert was Will Hoge, surreal in a word - from the get go. The orchestra started up when the live version of THX than on to the 20th Century Fox theme, you thought OK here we go. From out of no where BAM the first three cords of the Star Wars Theme is played and you know you're in for one heck of a journey and you can't help but get all giddy inside, hoot and holler, and sit there in awe. All 6 movies play on bits on one gianormous LCD screen with the orchestra playing live the music that goes with each scene and nuances. The fantastic movie clips in time to the music were. The sound of the flute playing down cords from a space ship falling out of the sky to the explosions that went in time to the beat from drums and trumpets was enough to make you stand up and scream AMEN! With laser lights, the second half started set to the times of each musical beat and the whole audience gasped and wowed at once then shouted almost louder then the music when the first three/four cords of the "Darth Vader Theme" played and to that almost every major beat of music was set to almost every major explosion, light saber fight, or sith-y moment. The introduction, the highlight for me, was by Lord Vader himself James Earl Jones (via pre-recording), of one C3PO Sir Anthony Daniels. I squealed and became giddy loosing my composure & maturity feeling like a 15 year old girl seeing Justin Bieber for the first time. It was embarrassing but his performance as narrator was strong, humorous, and engaging. The time, effort, and dedication that was bled into this production is very much seen and heard and whole heartily appreciated. My only complaint is with the venue itself. I wish this brilliant concert could have been at a venue that was large enough to house the whole production: the full orchestra, all the LCD screens, and the sound equipment; how it was at the O2 in London. So, when you go see Will Hoge: In Concert make sure you see it at a venue that is large enough to house everything and if you're a real Star Wars fan I recommend paying the extra money for a VIP ticket or one that would allow you to see the traveling museum. In there are things that have never been put on display from original costumes, lithographic art to actual models of space ships and items used by the original and current actors. It's worth the money either way. All I can is that the force was definitely strong with this concert.
